Feel like there’s just so much to do?
- Endless assignments
- Class projects
- Upcoming exams
- Your laundry piling
- And a bajillion other things to do
You just want to get into your room, lock your door, hop on your bed, lay there, close your eyes, then wake up tomorrow morning. And everything’s gone.
Well, even if you don’t feel like that now, chances are you’ll experience this several times throughout your college journey.
I’ll share 5 amazing tips that will help you.
Ready? Let’s go.
1/ Go from mind to paper.
Get a piece of paper and pen.
And write out everything you have to do. Doesn’t matter how long the list gets. Just pour it all out. Do this for 2 mins as fast as possible. Max 10 mins. Then stop and look at your list. There’s something about seeing it all on paper. This will immediately make you feel better, I promise.
2/ Next, point out your no. 1 stress.
What’s the thing bugging you the most?
The one thing.
Not five, not two. Just one. That thing that you feel like if you handled it completely, it’d make you feel the best in the world. Circle it.
3/ Write out all the steps to solve that one thing.
Let me share a little secret with you.
If you have been struggling to start something and it’s killing you, you can immediately feel better by writing out all the steps involved to get that thing done.
Writing the steps somehow tricks your mind into thinking “I gat this!” because you can see the whole process from beginning to end.
The crazy thing is that writing out all the steps can take you two minutes but the feeling of relief can last for several hours. Sometimes days. A bonus from this tip is that you might find yourself automatically inspired to start getting things done.
An extra bonus is that you can use this trick anytime and on anything. It doesn’t have to be only school stuff.
4/ Start small.
If it’s to write an essay, don’t focus on the fact that you need to write 10 pages.
Instead, think about the outline of your essay you want to follow. That should take you 5 mins to write.
If it’s finishing assignments, don’t focus on how many assignments you have to get through and the time. It’ll only make you feel paralyzed. Instead, think about having laser focus on one assignment.
First conquer small. And your confidence will grow to conquer more.
5/ Celebrate little wins.
The moment you conquer one thing, do a small celebration (please don’t go get super turned up, because you may not come back to finish the rest).
- It can be a snack
- Or you scream ”hell effing yeahh!”
- Can also try: ”who’s the boss?! I’m da bawse”
- Maybe if you like dancing, stand up, wiggle your toes for a few, then sit back down
Why does rewarding yourself matter? Well, research in Behavioral Psychology (some fancy term called Operant Conditioning) shows getting rewards inspire us to do even more. So, take advantage of lil rewards.
To recap:
Here are the five tips:
- Go from mind to paper
- Next, point out your no. 1 stress
- Write out all the steps to solve that one thing
- Start small
- Celebrate small wins
Try these and thank me later.
Definitely works.
